Community Service
The Community Service Committee provides players with
opportunities to give back to the community.
SSBL-Madison recognized as OutReach's 2009 Organization of the Year

"This award goes to a business, non-profit, or community group that makes a notable effort toward the advancement of LGBT equality and quality of life. The SSBL, Madison's first LGBT inclusive sports organization, has a history of not only promoting social interaction through its softball events, but also of building community through co-operative support of other LGBT sporting leagues and raising money for deserving groups in the greater Madison area."
SSBL-Madison has participated in the following community services:
    2010
  • SSBL-Madison started their yearly contribution of $1000 to GSA for Safe Schools Youth scholarship fund
    2009
  • 2009 Showdown in MadTown ASANA World Series (hosted by SSBL-Madison) donated over $5000 in proceeds between AIDS Network, WI Capitol Pride, Madison Gay Hockey Association, OutReach, Madison Gay Volleyball Association, UW Madison LGBT Campus Center
  • SSBL-Madison is given Outreach's Community Award for "Organization of the Year"
  • SSBL-Madison will hosted the 2nd Annual Felicia Melton-Smyth Memorial Tournament raising $1,471for AIDS Network
  • SSBL-Madison donated can tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House
  • SSBL-Madison donated raffle items to the GSA for Safe Schools Leadership Celebration
  • SSBL-Madison donated $100 to WI Capitol Pride and GSA for Safe Schools in the names of our Doug Hinderliter Award winners Maria Parker and Ben Monty
  • SSBL-Madison helped the Urban League of Greater Madison set up their new office on Park Street
    2008
  • SSBL-Madison members volunteered at the Henry Vilas Zoo's Annual Zoo Run Run.
  • SSBL-Madison formed and hosted the 1st Annual Felicia Melton-Smyth Memorial Tournament raising $1,600 for the AIDS Network.
    2007
  • SSBL-Madison members volunteered for Capital Candlelighters by staffing their summer picnic.
  • SSBL-Madison donated 10 percent of the proceeds from their annual drag show to Capital Candlelighters.
  • SSBL-Madison donated $500 to the AIDS Network.
